Google Ranking Factor – Domain History
Domains that have a clouded history may take a lot of effort to get ranking, long after the troubles from the past are left behind. Always check the history of your domain before registering, in case it’s been ‘burned’ by a previous owner.
Before buying a domain, check to see if it has any domain history on the Web Archive.
In part, this is most likely because of a negative association of things like backlinks that were established some time ago. For example, backlinks to a website from a large set of scathing reviews will linger.
The disavow process provided by Google may or may not be actioned, no matter how hard you try, plus, years after the fact it may be impossible to request removal of comments or other negative attribution to your domain.
In many cases, using a domain with a negative history may be a hopeless task. It may take longer to get an old domain out of a hole than it would to establish a fresh rank and track record for a brand new domain.
